Why do we care?
The Bowman Field Heritage Festival was created to celebrate and promote this community resource, which is a historically significant icon in our city. This annual event is the beginning of a project building towards the 100-Year Anniversary in just a few years. Our mission: to preserve, restore, and improve Bowman Field’s legacy as the longest continually operating commercial airport in US History. The two-day festival will be held in and around the area of the historic Administration Building and the 1929 Curtiss Flying Service Hangar, currently home of Central American Airways. Aviation enthusiasts from around the country will be bringing their vintage aircrafts from the 1920’s through the 1960’s to display and even provide rides for a few lucky patrons.
In addition to the aviation showcase, we will have classic autos and military equipment from the same era as well as a kids craft corner, food trucks, craft beer, bourbon and other community exhibitors.
The festival will kick off with the Yum! Brands Hot Air Balloon Rally and the Bowman Field 4-Miler Fun Run concluding with a pancake breakfast.
