Enjoy the sites of the Golden Era of Aviation History. Explore and see planes from the 1920's through the 1960's. Talk to pilots and owners of these vintage planes. Take a peep inside to see what it is like to step back in time... or buy a ticket to ride! Vintage plane rides will be available throughout the day on various historic planes such as the B-25 Bomber.
Meet the Vintage Warbirds! Local pilots and vintage plane enthusiasts that reside in Hangar 5 at Bowman Field will be displaying their planes. Take advantage of meeting some of our country's greatest heroes, like retired Col. John Casper, two time Purple Heart recipient. Casper was shot down twice and rescued from behind enemy lines. He leads the Warbirds formation flyover for Thunder Over Louisville.
Organizations like the EAA will be participating as their motto is "SHARE THE SPIRIT." They are a community of pilots and aviation enthusiasts who promote and support recreational flying. Their mission is simple: grow participation in aviation by sharing The Spirit of Aviation.
The Ninety-Nines will be with us, too! The Ninety-Nines is the international organization of women pilots that promotes advancement of aviation through education, scholarships, and mutual support while honoring our unique history and sharing our passion for flight. Established in 1929 by 99 women pilots, the members of The Ninety-Nines, Inc., International Organization of Women Pilots, are represented in all areas of aviation today. And, to quote Amelia, fly “for the fun of it!”
See some great military vehicles on display from throughout history from the KILROY Chapter, an affiliate of the MVPA (Military Vehicle Preservation Association). www.mvpa.org. Members of KILROY are dedicated to “provide an international organization for military vehicle enthusiasts . . . and the preservation and display of historic military transport.”
LIVE entertainment throughout the day with acts like the "Ladies for Liberty." Weather dependent, we will have an 80ft. American Flag on display thanks to the Louisville Metro Fire Department. Stand and salute the flag as we will have local vocalists sing of the National Anthem. Entertainment line up to be announced soon.
